Most match words are de: de redding, de kaart, de strafschop, de kampioen. But het schot is het. Remember: het schot is the shot, everything else on the field is de.

The verb that moves everything

Nemen means 'to take', but in Dutch it shows up everywhere: een besluit nemen (to make a decision), de tijd nemen (to take your time). It is a high-value verb because it carries action. Use it and you sound natural.
