Let's Go Dutch

Lesson 4 of 50 · A0 to A1 · Free

Jobs, people and the first food words

Imagine a Dutch street where every door teaches you a job.

The camera races through a bakery, a butcher, a clinic and a café. You already know more Dutch professions than you think.

You already speak some of this

dokter, agent, advocaat, directeur and student are close enough to English that you can guess them cold. And Dutch builds job words the way English does, with an -er on the end: bakker, slager, kapper, verkoper. Spot the pattern once and twenty words get cheaper.

One street, eight doors

Noor walks the length of her street and everybody is working. Read it once for the shape. Read it again out loud.
