The de/het box

Some nouns are always de, some always het. There is no rule, but you learn them together. De vlag, de toekomst, de ster, de schaduw, de markt. Het einde, het geld, het geluk. Say them with the article, and you are never lost.

de
de vlag · de toekomst · de ster · de schaduw · de markt
het
het einde · het geld · het geluk

The trap: 'jouw' vs 'je'

Both mean 'your', but 'jouw' has stress. You say 'jouw' when you really mean it: 'Is dit jouw geld?' (Is this YOUR money?). 'Je' is light, everyday: 'Is dit je geld?' (Is this your money?). Own the emphasis, own the word.

At the market

Hear all 20, then say them back

The interactive lesson plays every word, walks the story line by line, records your voice next to a native one, and remembers the ones you find hard. Lesson 1 needs no account.

  • I can say 'de vlag' and 'de toekomst' with the right article.
  • I can use 'moeten' to say what I have to do.
  • I can use 'zetten' and 'draaien' for actions.
  • I can ask how much something costs.
  • I can say 'mijn' and 'jouw' to show possession.

Fifty fifty. We build it. You show up.
