De or het?
Most weather nouns are 'de': de wind, de storm, de bliksem, de donder, de wolk. But 'het onweer' and 'het ijs' are 'het'. Remember: 'het onweer' is the whole thunderstorm, 'de bliksem' is the flash, 'de donder' is the sound.

The trap: 'het weer' vs 'de temperatuur'
In Dutch, weather is 'het weer', but temperature is 'de temperatuur'. Don't mix them. When you say 'De temperatuur is hoog', you talk about a number, not the weather. The weather is 'het weer', and it is 'mooi' or 'slecht'. Own the difference, and you sound like a local.
