How this verb works

  • Regular verb. The stem is misluk. The infinitive mislukken has k before -en, one of the sounds in 't kofschip (t, k, f, s, ch, p), so the past tense takes -te (mislukte, mislukten) and the participle ends in -t (mislukt).
  • When jij comes after the verb, the -t drops: jij mislukt, but misluk jij?
  • Perfect tense with zijn: ik ben mislukt, not ik heb mislukt.
