What is Dutch Fluency?
A whole Dutch learning platform, built specifically for people who actually want to speak Dutch.
Dutch Fluency is a gamified learning platform built for three kinds of people: expat learners, classroom teachers, and companies training their team. Daily challenges, AI conversation, a journal that turns into songs, a reading method, podcasts, classrooms, HR analytics. All under one login.
Built for three kinds of people
Most platforms pick one audience. Dutch Fluency was built for all three, because the people learning Dutch, teaching it, and paying for their team to learn it all need different things from the same content.
For learners
Everything a Dutch learner needs, in one place
No more switching between eight different apps. Sign in once and every tool knows your level, your streak, your vocabulary, and what to suggest next.
Daily Challenges
Level-aware exercises at A1, A2, B1, or B2. Multiple choice, written answers, listening, and speaking (powered by Whisper). Earn XP. Track submissions in a calendar view. Weekly themes keep it fresh.
Open →Daily Dictation
You hear Dutch audio, you type what you hear. Detailed scoring on spelling, grammar, and word accuracy. Daily, weekly, and monthly dictations with their own leaderboard.
Open →Dagboek (your Dutch journal)
Write in your native language. Get an AI translation with corrections, vocabulary extraction, audio narration, a weekly story, and a weekly personal song generated from your entries. Optional: a private podcast based on your week.
Open →Conversation with Rick
Real Dutch conversation practice with an AI chatbot adapted to your CEFR level. Inline corrections, multiple sessions, full history. Practice the small talk you keep avoiding.
Open →DFL Reading Method
A structured reading curriculum. Books and chapters with comprehension exercises and integrated dictation. PRE-A1 to A2. Book 1, Chapter 1 is free.
Open →Vocabulary engine
Words from your journal corrections, classroom activities, or manual lookups all flow into one vocabulary system. AI definitions, spaced repetition, automatic sync to classroom flashcards.
Open →Podcasts at your level
Free A1 to B2 daily episodes covering Dutch news, Reddit threads, dialogues, and weekly themes. Embedded Spotify players in your dashboard. Transcripts free.
Open →Personal music
Mijn Muziek is your library of AI-generated Dutch songs, made from your journal entries and your classroom themes. Practice listening to Dutch that is actually about your week.
Open →Gamification that respects your time
Streaks that survive a missed day. Leaderboards by city, level, and timeframe. Real progress reports, not vanity metrics.
XP & levels
Every activity earns XP. Progress through A1, A2, B1, B2 with visual bars. Optional level lock if you prefer manual.
Leaderboard
Global rankings by week, month, all-time. Filter by level. Optional city peers (Amsterdam, Den Haag, Eindhoven, your town).
Badges & streaks
Streak length, challenge count, vocabulary size. One auto-freeze per week so life happens. Two missed days and Rick personally reaches out.
Weekly progress report
Mistake pattern analysis across spelling, grammar, vocabulary, articles, word order, punctuation. With actual tips, not pep talk.
For teachers
Tools NT2 teachers asked for, and we built
Create a classroom in two minutes. Hand out a join code. Your students show up with their own streaks, their own vocab, their own corrections feeding directly into your shared flashcards.
Classrooms with join codes
Unique join code per class. Invite students, manage rosters, track each learner's activity and CEFR progress.
Real-time collaborative docs
Tiptap v3 plus Socket.IO. Edit Dutch texts together in real time, like Google Docs but built for language teaching.
Shared vocab & flashcards
Class vocabulary list with AI exercise generation. Interactive flashcard decks. Words flow between student journals and class decks.
Custom stories & music
Generate Dutch stories on any theme you pick. PDF export, audio narration, vocabulary built in. Plus AI-generated class songs.
Community study groups
Beyond classrooms: messaging, image/audio/PDF sharing, member management. Optional for cohorts that want to keep talking after class.
For companies & HR
Dutch training your HR team can actually measure
Buy a seat for your team. Get an admin panel that tells you who actually opened it last week, what they used, and whether they are improving. No more guessing whether the budget worked.
Activation & usage analytics
Activation rate, weekly active users, average streak, session counts. Tool usage breakdown so you see which features your team prefers.
Team seat management
Invite employees, manage seats, set company-wide preferences. Each learner still gets their personal dashboard, you get the aggregate view.
Quarterly reports
Exportable progress reports for L&D leads. Show your CFO that the Dutch training line item is producing actual Dutch speakers.
How it all fits together
One login across every Dutch Fluency app. Your dashboard, your dagboek, your tulip pronunciation, your reading method, your stories, your podcasts. They all know your CEFR level, your last activity, and your vocabulary.
Vocabulary is the spine. A word you looked up in the podcast player ends up in your spaced-repetition deck. A correction from your dagboek ends up there too. If you are in a classroom, those words sync to the shared deck. Nothing gets lost.
Streaks and XP carry across everything. Speaking practice in Conversation with Rick counts the same as a daily challenge. The platform tracks the work, you focus on showing up.

Frequently asked questions
What is Dutch Fluency in one sentence?+
A gamified Dutch learning platform with daily challenges, AI conversation, a journal-to-podcast tool, classroom features, and HR analytics. Built specifically for Dutch.
How is it different from Duolingo?+
Duolingo is one app for forty languages. Dutch Fluency is a whole platform for one language, with real audio at your level, a personal podcast based on your week, classrooms for NT2 teachers, and an HR dashboard for companies. Things Duolingo will never build, because Dutch is too small for them to care.
Who is it for?+
Three audiences. Expat learners moving to or living in Nederland. NT2 teachers running classes online or in person. Companies that want their employees to speak Dutch and want to see usage data.
What is included in the free plan?+
One challenge day per week, dagboek access, daily podcasts at A1 to B2, free transcripts, the assessment, and Book 1 Chapter 1 of the DFL Reading Method. No credit card, no time limit.
Is there a classroom version?+
Yes. Teachers can create classrooms with join codes, share vocab and flashcards, generate stories and songs on any theme, and use real-time collaborative documents. See /teams for pricing.
Do companies use Dutch Fluency?+
Yes. The HR dashboard shows activation, weekly active users, streaks, and tool usage per employee. Quarterly exports for L&D reports. Reach out via /teams for a team plan.
What CEFR levels are covered?+
A1 through B2 for the dashboard exercises. PRE-A1 to A2 for the DFL Reading Method. Daily podcasts at A1, A2, B1, and B2.
Can I use it on my phone?+
Yes. Every app runs in mobile Safari or Chrome. No app store install, no native app to update. Add to home screen and it behaves like an app.
Does the streak survive a missed day?+
You get one auto-freeze per week. Miss two days in a row and Rick personally reaches out, not the algorithm. The point is to keep going, not to punish you.
Who built this?+
Rick (founder, builds everything) and Johan (strategy, partnerships, B2B). Rick is in Asia building. Johan handles the people side. Read the full story on the about page.
