How this verb works
- Regular verb. The stem is zet. The infinitive zetten has t before -en, one of the sounds in 't kofschip (t, k, f, s, ch, p), so the past tense takes -te (zette, zetten) and the participle ends in -t (voortgezet).
- Separable verb. In a main clause the prefix voort goes to the end: ik zet voort. In a subordinate clause it stays attached: ... dat ik voortzet, ... dat ik voortzette.
- In the participle, ge goes between the two parts: voortgezet.
