How this verb works

  • Regular verb. The stem is rond. The infinitive ronden has d before -en, which is not in 't kofschip (t, k, f, s, ch, p), so the past tense takes -de (rondde, rondden) and the participle ends in -d (afgerond).
  • Separable verb. In a main clause the prefix af goes to the end: ik rond af. In a subordinate clause it stays attached: ... dat ik afrond, ... dat ik afrondde.
  • In the participle, ge goes between the two parts: afgerond.
